Glasgow Zine Library - Fundraising Intern

Apply for this SGSAH-funded internship with Glasgow Zine Library, up to 12 weeks FTE, between January & October 2025.

The project is titled Fundraising Intern and will involve supporting the Glasgow Zine library in securing income (grants, sponsorship, donations) to cover the costs of running their arts charity

Deadline for Applications is 15th November 2024.

Location

This role can be done remotely, hybrid, or in person at Glasgow Zine Library, 32-34 Albert Road, Glasgow G42 8DN. Our venue is wheelchair accessible and access provision includes masks, varied/soft seating/lighting, stim tools, dyslexia reading aids, noise cancelling headphones, a quiet space, with a small budget for taxis, BSL interpretation, captioning and audio description.

Project

Glasgow Zine Library is a community arts space in South Glasgow. We run arts, heritage, and community led event programmes, an annual zine festival, support volunteers, residencies and arts commissions, and our library is a community hub with a free-to-hire making room full of arts and crafts resources, while our zine collection holds 3,500 zines. We are looking for a proactive intern with excellent research and writing skills to support us in securing income (grants, sponsorship, donations) to cover the costs of running our arts charity. The intern will be managed, trained and supported by our Development Coordinator - no previous experience required! You will collaborate on researching potential funders and sponsors, drafting persuasive copy for applications, newsletters and organisational activity reports, and planning a fundraiser event.

We aim to celebrate zine culture; uplift the experiences, practices and imaginations of marginalised creatives; resource DIY creativity; build community connection and joy; and democratise community arts access. We do this through our year-round public cultural programmes, resources, and opportunities. Our activities are pay-what-you-can and access provision includes a wheelchair accessible venue, quiet space, stim tools, masks, BSL, and captioning.

Outputs

We are seeking a Fundraising Intern to support our Development Coordinator with securing grants, corporate sponsorship, and developing and delivering new approaches to generating income for our community arts charity. This role can be done in person, remotely, or hybrid. The role will primarily involve researching trusts, foundations and other funders, drafting copy for grant applications, building relationships with sponsors, and coming up with ideas for income generation with the Development Coordinator.

Our organisation aims to:
- Support the intern to develop their skills, experience, confidence and employability
- Secure enough income (through grants, sponsorship, donations etc.) to cover the costs of our festival, cultural programmes, opportunities and resources for 1 year.
- Develop and implement innovative approaches to diversifying our income.
- Raise our organisational profile.
- All so we can continue to support local and marginalised creatives and communities to flourish!

Key Tasks:
• Researching income sources including trusts, foundations, statutory grants, and corporate sponsors, trading income and donations
• Drafting persuasive copy for grant applications and sponsorship
• Writing the Patreon member’s newsletter
• Planning a fundraiser event (e.g. festive market, sponsor party etc.)
• Providing admin support (conducting surveys, updating the database)
• Helping prepare the organisation’s activity reports for funders/staff
• Meeting staff to get to grips with our programmes and other work
• Meeting funders to show them the library and tell them about what we do
• Complete relevant training
• Following our policies on Health & Safety, Safer Spaces, and other policies

They will work with (and have the option to shadow) other staff members (Programme Coordinator, Volunteer Coordinator, Communications, Archive staff) to determine the organisation's needs and activities.
