Art Collection, University of Stirling - Collections Intern
Apply for this SGSAH-funded internship with Art Collection, University of Stirling, up to 12 weeks FTE, between January & April 2025.
The project is titled Collections Intern and will involve documentation and preparation of collection records for upload to the site and the preparation of ART UK stories and curations.

Location
The internship will be a mix of in person and remote working. The intern could undertake some of the research work remotely. However, digitisation work and collections care work would need to be undertaken in person at the Art Collection at the University of Stirling.
Project
The project is titled "Collections Intern". The University of Stirling Art Collection is an Accredited Collection comprising over 900 works including paintings, prints, tapestries, sculpture and silver. Our Collecting Policy, focuses on collecting the work of established and emerging artists who reflect Scotland – this includes artists who are Scottish, artists who are working in Scotland or international artists who are inspired by or working on Scottish themes.
This year the Art Collection aims to work with ART UK to integrate our Collections with the Art UK online platform. The project would involve documentation and preparation of collection records for upload to the site and the preparation of ART UK stories and curations.
The Collections Intern will research or collections and utilise our Axiell Collections catalogue and the University Scan Studio to publicise our collections to a wide audience.
Outputs
• Preparation of collections records and images for upload to Art UK.
• Research into artworks held in the Collection
• Preparation and upload of written 'stories' and identification and preparation of themed 'curations' for Art UK site
• Digitisation of new acquisitions to the Collection using the University Scan Studio

Benefits to the Researcher
The intern will gain experience of working in a museum environment, in particular they will gain develop their knowledge of the history of Art and how to write and prepare curated materials for a general audience.
They will receive cataloguing training in our museum collections database Axiell Collections, learn how to digitise museum objects using our ScanStudio and develop their understanding of collections care. They will develop new contacts and relationships through the University Museums in Scotland network and academic staff at the University of Stirling.
Key Relationships
The intern will work with Art Collection staff including the Head of University Collections, Deputy Head of University Collections, Research and Documentation officer and Collections Officer.
The intern will work across Culture on Campus with a range of colleagues including curators and archivists. In addition they will be in contact with academics in the institution to assist in the research work needed for the project.
The research element of the project will also involve contact with artists, archivists and curators at other institutions.
