My doctoral reserach explores the relationship between Minimalist sculpture and contemporary memorial design. I am particularly interested in the ways in which sculptors associated with the Minimalist movement engaged with issues of monumentality and the effects of this on how we may interpret and experience their art. By considering examples from North American and Europe, my research will examine how and why a Minimalist aesthetic has come to dominate recent memorial designs, and assess its suitability for this purpose.
