SGSAH is now recruiting a new Director to lead Scotland's national graduate school for the arts and humanities through its next transformative phase. This 0.5FTE secondment opportunity is open to senior academic staff at any of SGSAH’s 17 member institutions.
The Scottish Graduate School for Arts & Humanities (SGSAH) is now accepting applications for the role of Director. The role also includes establishing and leading a regional Hub to deliver the DLA.
Hosted by the University of Glasgow, SGSAH is a national collaboration that supports and enhances doctoral research training in the arts and humanities. The Director will provide strategic and inclusive leadership, advocate for the sector on national and international platforms, and work with partners to deliver innovative training and support for doctoral researchers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Strategic leadership and vision for SGSAH
- Oversight of AHRC-funded doctoral training (DTP2, DLA, DFA)
- Leading the development of the new regional DLA Hub
- Advocating for the value of arts and humanities research
- Building partnerships across academia, culture, and policy sectors
Applicants must currently hold a professorial appointment at any one of SGSAH’s 17 member HEIs and must have the support of their home institution to undertake the secondment. Backfill costs of up to £45,000 per annum will be reimbursed to the home institution.
The role is based at SGSAH’s Glasgow office, with flexible working expected across Scotland and the UK. Some travel, evening, and weekend commitments are required. Reasonable travel costs from a home HEI to the SGSAH office will be covered.

Applications close on 23rd June 2025. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for online interview on 7th July 2025.
