The Scottish Graduate School for Arts & Humanities (SGSAH) and the Scottish Graduate School of Social Science (SGSSS) are delighted to introduce a series of doctoral networks aimed at fostering community, peer support, and knowledge exchange among postgraduate researchers (PGRs) in Scotland.
These interdisciplinary networks are designed to offer PhD students across the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences a welcoming space to connect, collaborate, and support one another—both academically and socially. Shaped by the needs and interests of their members, each network offers opportunities for professional development, shared learning, and solidarity during the doctoral journey.
Open to all PhD researchers based in Scotland—regardless of funding status—these networks are here to help you navigate the challenges of doctoral study while building lasting academic and social relationships.
Meet the Networks
International PGR Network
This network supports international PhD students who are studying Arts, Humanities, or Social Science subjects in Scotland.
If you have studied outside the UK or English is not your first language, this network is for you. It offers a supportive space to share experiences, access resources, and build community with others navigating similar challenges.
Disabled PhD Researchers Network
This network is for PhD students who identify as disabled, experience issues related to access, or feel they would benefit from a supportive peer-led space. It aims to promote solidarity and resource sharing among disabled researchers across disciplines and institutions.
Global Majority PhD Student Network
This network supports PhD researchers from Global Majority backgrounds in the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.
We use “Global Majority” as a collective term for people of African, Asian, Indigenous, or Latin American descent—those whose heritage traces back to the Global South. This network will host events and activities to encourage connection, visibility, and shared support.
Part-Time PhD Student Network
Part-time PhD researchers often face unique challenges in balancing their studies with other responsibilities. This network offers a space for part-time students to connect, share strategies, and support one another throughout the doctoral journey.
