Cutting Edge Theatre - Theatre and Learning Disabilities
Apply for this SGSAH-funded internship with Cutting Edge Theatre, up to 12 weeks FTE, between January & July 2025.
The project is titled Theatre and Learning Disabilities and will involve researching what access is available within theatre to learning disabled young people in Scotland and how to open up that access for them as audience members, participants and professionals.
Deadline for Applications is 15th November 2024.
Location
1. In person/online discussions initially
2. In person visiting of our existing sessions at Diadem Church Halls
3. Working with our staff, visiting ASN schools in Scotland to determine the need, access etc
4. Working from home, collating information and research
Project
The project is titled "Theatre and Learning Disabilities" and will involve researching what, if any, access is available within theatre to learning disabled young people in Scotland and how to open up that access for them as audience members, participants and professionals.
Outputs
1. Establishing what access is available at different age levels
2. Researching ways in which theatre can open up different learning goals for learning disabled young people
3. Researching radical ways that theatre can be "rolled out" to learning disabled people in Scotland, building on our existing "ladder" strategy and aims
Timescale

Project can be worked full time, part time or flexibly in blocks
Benefits to the Researcher

- how to work with learning/disabled people
- be able to look at how learning disabled people access information
- learn how to create accessible, creative information template that can be used by theatres/theatre companies to ensure that their information is accessible.

Key Relationships
They will work with Cutting Edge staff who are experienced in working with disabled people. Also work with the Artistic Director on the project. They will have in person interaction with over 50 disabled people who we already work with in Edinburgh and in Fife. They may also interact with the Education teams at Capital Theatres and the Playhouse Theatre in Edinburgh as well as others around Scotland.
