About this Session

Immersive technology offers users a range of unique affordances. The most striking of these is that it provides a spatial medium for working with and interrogating spatial things. Immersive technology also allows users to embody the perspective of other – real or fictional – people and see events through their eyes. Immersive technology can create a sense of presence for places and times far away or long gone.

For this and other reasons, immersive technology can be a useful tool for researchers and creative practitioners. This short workshop will introduce two case studies from University of Glasgow and allow participants to try their hand at authoring their own immersive experiences.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this session, participants will:

  • Understand pertinent affordances of XR technology which make it a useful tool for research and creative practice
  • Have an understanding of how XR technology is being currently used in research and creative practice, both in UofG and elsewhere
  • Have an understanding of how you can author XR experiences using accessible tools

Who might be interested?

PhD researchers curious about immersive technology either as a research tool or as a tool for creative practice.
