About this Session
This workshop will introduce participants to student-centred teaching techniques and their applicability in linguistics classrooms. It will involve discussion and brainstorming around traditional and innovative classroom techniques, followed by two immersive demonstration sessions in which we will highlight the importance of participants’ existing knowledge and beliefs on the desired outcomes of each activity. We will share experiences of using these techniques in undergraduate classrooms and highlight some of the many outcomes that can result from them. Participants will then be invited to create their own learning activities and try them out in small groups. The workshop will encourage creative, playful and innovative approaches to linguistics teaching and provide a much needed opportunity for students to begin developing their own teaching practice.
Who might be interested?
Although this workshop is about teaching linguistics, it will be of considerable interest to students in other A&H disciplines.
